The new musical ‘City Of Dreams’ features the music of Eric Coates and opens in Surrey this April…

The action takes place on a midsummer night in 1932 in Piccadilly Circus with all its characters…
The Club owners, Flower and Newspaper Sellers, The Star-Crossed Lovers, the musicians who play to the theatre queues and are all held together by Eros…a latter-day Puck. Yes, there is a slight Shakespearian reflection.

Imagination’s Leee John

Starring Lee John (Imagination) in the role of Creole who comes to London in search of fame and fortune. He performs three solos and includes a few slick dance moves during his performance.

The cast also includes Peter Straker from Hair & many other West End Musicals.

From the late1930s onwards, the British press and theatre critics were urging Eric Coates to find a librettist and lyricist and write stage musicals as they felt that he was a British Richard Rodgers and if he could team up with Oscar Hammerstein II he would have fantastic success in musical theatre.
Coates died in 1857…so this is the first stage musical for the genius born in 1886.
