Will Abba finally win a Grammy?

Nov 17, 2022 | News Beat

Amazingly one of pop’s most successful pop groups in history has never won a Grammy. Will they achieve it this time around?

This time they may succeed as they have 4 nominations.

Record of the Year and best pop duo for Don’t Shut Me Down and with Voyage, nominated for Album Of The Year and Pop Vocal Album. The smart money is that they will win one of these categories.

After a 40-year absence, the group’s incredible fairytale comeback has been all the more surprising as a lot of their new fans weren’t even born when they were last chart regulars.

Now the 9th studio album is breaking all records. Nineteen countries already have seen Voyage top their respective album charts.

So who will ABBA be up against?

Jon Batiste, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Brandi Carlile, Doja Cat & SZA, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, and Silk Sonic in the ‘Record of the Year’ category.

Benny with the special plaque

Recently, the band was honored when a plaque was presented for global sales of their 2021 comeback album in excess of 2,500,000 copies.

Benny Ulvaeus accepted the award on behalf of the group.

But don’t think the Academy doesn’t favor Eurovision acts. Previous winners have included – Celine Dion, Olivia Newton-John, and Julio Iglesias.

In the history of the prestigious awards, you have to go right back to 1959 to find the only Eurovision entry to actually win a Grammy.

That unique feat was none other than Nel Blu, Dipinto Di Blu, which was an Italian entry the year before – and it didn’t even win the Eurovision!

Will ABBA break that long 63-year-old record?
