On 5th February 2022, a special day was held at the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith to commemorate the late Pogues manager who died in December.

A unique statue commissioned by Frank’s brother Brian was unveiled.

Called Scaradh (the Gaelic name meaning seperation in English), the statue was sculpted by renowned RHA sculptor Michael Quane. Present were many of his family and friends who knew the celebrated promoter, including former Skids and Thin Lizzy manager Ted Carroll.

Carroll recalled a few funny anecdotes about Frank when he toured with Thin Lizzy in the US.

An afternoon of music interspersed with speeches, poetry, and traditional Irish dancing from one of Ireland’s young rising couples enthralled all that witnessed the occasion.

Among the performers was Neck’s Leeson O’Keeffe and other Irish musicians.

Sé Merry Doyle addresses the audience

A short film on Frank’s life and the making of the statue was shown by renowned Irish documentary filmmaker Merry Doyle.

In the evening, there was a special concert with The Christine Tobin Band and The Lost Brothers.

All in all, it was a lovely gathering with the people he loved and worked with.

Having dabbled in so many different spheres of Irish culture, we only thought it right to cover his life and career next month in more detail.

A special Beat tribute to Frank Murray and Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott will appear in the March issue of the Beat.
