Will a glam rock band ever front the legends slot at Glasto? Slade’s lead singer Noddy thinks Slade is ready…

Slade

Few bands can even dream of selling the records that Slade has. Yet 500 million records later, the 1970’s glam rockers from Wolverhampton have surpassed that and they have one more bucket list tick to add… to headline Glastonbury.

Despite Noddy leaving the band in 1991, Slade still carries the name forward. Jim Lea, who wrote the hits alongside Noddy, quit shortly afterward and took a break from the limelight to study psychotherapy for 20 years. He battled his own problems, beating prostate cancer, and yet nursed his father and an elder brother through dementia. Both Noddy and Jim turned down the chance to reform the band countless times as Dave and Don continued under the name Slade II.

In 2014, Noddy admitted he had no intention of ever seeing his former bandmates perform but in a recent interview hinted that he would love to see Slade play the legends slot at Glastonbury.

If it could only be that easy. Dave sacked Don in 2020 and there are certainly a few bridges to cross before Noddy’s dream can ever see the light of day, Michael Eavis included. Noddy recently said, “It would be amazing if we could work out our differences. I’d think we probably all have to go on a coach together”.
